Many people would be surprised to know that even men would suffer from a condition widely associated only with women. Millions of people including men suffer from the presence of an excessively active yeast culture on their genitals. Because men would generally not think of possibly suffering from a yeast infection, a good majority of them would suffer the symptoms for a while before they even get diagnosed by a physician.

Signs and Symptoms

The alarming thing about yeast infection in males is that the symptoms are similar to STDs. There would be white lumpy rashes on the penis. The penis would, in certain cases, even emit a pus-like discharge. The discharge would usually not smell and so as long as there is no discomfort, the infection the male may go unnoticed at most. The rash on the penis would be itchy at the beginning. Without any treatment, it would progress to causing burning sensations and the eventually a painful sensation. The rash could even spread to beyond the penile surface onto the scrotum. The severe forms of rashes would turn to sores and lesions that could bleed if left unattended.

Causes of Male Yeast infection

  • The leading cause of Candidiasis (yeast infection) among men is through sexual contact with a partner that is suffering from the infection. Men whose foreskins that cover a part of their penis have a higher probability of contracting the infection that those who have circumcised penises.
  • The ingestion of antibiotics could raise the risks of a yeast infection because the good bacteria that keep yeast levels in check will also be eliminated by the antibiotic treatment.
  • Yeast thrives in areas that are moist and dark. On the human body, that would be the genital area. Men who have unhygienic habits provide favorable breeding grounds for yeast cultures.
  • Low immune system caused by and not limited to factors such as nutrition deficiency, stress, diseases, etc
  • Improper diet – what you are ingesting could be feeding the bad bacteria; foods that are fried, sugar, processed foods, etc
  • Diabetics also have a compromised immune system along with the sugar in the urine, both of which allow the yeast to flourish

The Solution to Cure

Upon the diagnosis of Candidiasis on a man, he will probably be given topical creams or other anti-fungal medication. In most cases, the treatment can reverse the condition. In some cases, the infection will only be remedied temporarily and there may be recurrences. It is important to be aware of what lifestyle decisions will affect the occurrence of yeast infections. Among these choices are reducing the intake of sugar and beer. Natural remedies are also effective in curbing yeast infections. The key is to eliminate it, to get to the root of it, and eliminate it from your system.
